Cast on with Fancywork for fun, classic summer knit! Midori Hirose's Ranunculus has been knit over 23,000 times – and for good reason! It boasts an abundance of customizations ensuring that no two Ranunculus' are the same. In fact, many knitters have made more than one! For starters, choose from 2 different neck lines and 3 different sleeves. You can also choose a cropped or full length.
But perhaps the most exciting customization of all is that you can knit Ranunculus with nearly ANY weight yarn. Rananculus is written for yarns ranging from lace or light fingering all the way up to worsted weight. The thinner the yarn you choose, the more transparent your end result will be. If you're going for a warmer, more structured sweater to wear this fall, consider a heavier weight yarn. The textured stitches will really shine!
Our Ranunculus KAL host, Kecia, chose to knit her Ranunculus with two yarns held together – Knitting for Olive Pure Silk and Soft Silk Mohair. Hers will be very drapey thanks to all that silk, but the double-stranding will add structure, striking a fine balance.
Other yarns we think would be great for Ranunculus include Brooklyn Tweed Tones Light, Studio Donegal Darnie or Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift for a light-weight, but woolly sweater. For an easy-care, ultra wearable tonally dyed sweater think about Fiber MacGyver Merino 100, Moondrake Chibi, Cowgirlblues Merino Twist or Juni + Si Sock. Mohair lovers will be delighted with their near transparent and oh-so-soft Ranunculus. Cowgirlblues' Kidsilk from South Africa is an incredibly soft choice. We also love Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair. If you're thinking ahead to fall, cast on with Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive or Brooklyn Tweed Arbor for a classic sweater to wear for years to come! With so many options, we can't wait to see what you choose!

FAQs
What's a Knitalong (or Crochetalong, or Makealong)?
A knitalong (KAL), Crochetalong (CAL) or Makealong (MAL) is a social event designed to bring the maker community together around a specific pattern or yarn – or sometimes both. Enjoy connecting with others while knitting or crocheting the same garment or working with a particular yarn together. This is a fantastic time to gather together with others in our fiber arts community, enjoy camaraderie, and get a little guidance and project support along the way.
What ISN'T a Knitalong/Crochetalong/Makealong?
A KAL/CAL/MAL is not a class. You should be reasonably familiar with the techniques required to work through the project at hand. However, help is never far away! If you ever find yourself in need of extended project support, we offer Help Sessions twice weekly on Wednesday & Saturdays from 1-3pm.
