Product description

We are over the moon to present our newest yarn to Fancywork: Moondrake Co.! This is no ordinary hand-dyed yarn. Moondrake owner and dyer, Rachelle, searches the wool world high and low for yarn bases that you won't find anywhere else. These fibers take on color with gusto! The result is a collection of yarns that are unique, luxurious and impossibly rich in hue.

After a wonderfully warm conversation with Rachelle, we decided to bring two Moondrake bases to Fancywork. Chibi is a high-twist, sport-weight superwash merino that lends itself really well to high-wear garments and accessories like sweaters and mittens. This is a yarn you'll turn to again and again thanks to it's wonderful balance of durability and beauty. The second Moondrake offering is Fuwa Fuwa – a luxurious yarn you won't be able to stop thinking about. Brushed cashmere on a soft merino core makes a romantic, ethereal fabric. Use Fuwa Fuwa all on it's own or pair it with Chibi to add texture to stranded colorwork patterns. The possibilities are limitless.

To celebrate the arrival of this special yarn to Central Oregon, we're hosting a makealong! Knit or crochet anything you'd like – the only rule is that you use Moondrake yarn purchased from Fancywork. Of course we have plenty of ideas to spark your creative juices.

For the knitters, we're thinking about Plenilune Tee by Alicia Plummer. This is a great project if you're looking for a quicker knit using just two or three skeins of Fuwa Fuwa. You could also consider The Cross Over Hat by Nia Knitwear for a fun exploration of Fuwa Fuwa. The combination of brioche tuck and brushed cashmere would be absolutely dreamy.

If you're ready to jump right in to an all-over colorwork, all-day-long Fuwa Fuwa sweater, Joji Locatelli's Instant Crush is the one for you! For Chibi fans, Caitlin Hunter has two patterns to consider: Talkeetna and Autumn Alpine. Fuwa Fuwa would play beautifully in the yoke for each of these sweaters, with Chibi being a perfect choice for the body of Autumn Alpine as well. Check out Moondrake Tee by This.Bird.Knits. Aptly named and such a gorgeous and wearable design for warmer temperatures and as a layering piece during the colder months. And, you'll also have a chance to knit the newest yet-to-be-named design from Native Knitter, which releases January 12th.

FAQs

What's a Knitalong (or Crochetalong, or Makealong)?
A knitalong (KAL), Crochetalong (CAL) or Makealong (MAL) is a social event designed to bring the maker community together around a specific pattern or yarn – or sometimes both. Enjoy connecting with others while knitting or crocheting the same garment or working with a particular yarn together. This is a fantastic time to gather together with others in our fiber arts community, enjoy camaraderie, and get a little guidance and project support along the way.

What ISN'T a Knitalong/Crochetalong/Makealong?
A KAL/CAL/MAL is not a class. You should be reasonably familiar with the techniques required to work through the project at hand. However, help is never far away! If you ever find yourself in need of extended project support, we offer Help Sessions twice weekly on Wednesday & Saturdays from 1-3pm.

Why the participation fee?
We work hard to provide fun, content rich events that support Central Oregon's fiber arts community, and to offer opportunities to gain skills and knowledge about our shared craft. While we strive to strike a balance between affordability and value, planning and hosting such events requires significant resources. If you would like to participate, but find the fee to be a financial hurdle, please email us. We value inclusion over all else and will work with you to make your participation possible.
